Purpose

RecoveryNC is expanding to include local chapters to enhance local and statewide advocacy efforts. Emphasis will be placed on understanding and supporting Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care. Local chapters will be able to share ideas and solutions to addiction treatment, recovery and advocacy issues with other chapters across the State as well as develop local responses for their communities. Chapters will have continuous access to the RecoveryNC Coordinator, the RecoveryNC Standing Committee and the Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina (ADCNC) Staff as well as the RecoveryNC and ADCNC websites with the ability to add information about your chapter.

Goal

The overall goal is to become the “go to” organization for any and all addiction treatment and recovery issues in your community, enlarge your membership and partner with other addiction-related organizations in your area.

  1. Establish a phone/internet tree among your membership to respond rapidly to occurring addiction issues in your local area and at the state level that would have direct impact on the services available in your area
  2. Participate in Recovery Month activities.
  3. Hold recovery rallies runs and walks, sponsor sports events, participate in other community-sponsored events, etc.
  4. Attend and participate in local and when possible state government legislative, public policy and regulatory meetings that impact addiction treatment and recovery service.
  5. Tell your stories in video or audio format to put a face on recovery!

Reducing stigma against people with addictions and ending the shame that prevents them from seeking treatment is an enormous task. The people who have overcome the disease of addiction are the best spokespersons to educate the rest of society about the reality of recovery. We need you to become the advocates for your own cause.
